GROUP 1 – 2D, 2E & Group A of 2L GROUP 2 – 2J, 2F & Group B of 2L The Department of Education Special Swimming Scheme is an intensive learn to swim program which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. The swimming scheme caters for all ability levels and we look forward to all Year 2 students participating. Instruction will take place at Manly Swim Centre under the instruction of qualified teachers. The Scheme will continue daily for two weeks from Monday 14 October (first day of Term 4) to Friday 25 October. The total cost for the 10 day scheme is $95.00, consisting of $50.00 for transport and $45.00 for pool entry. There is no charge for instruction. If your child has a season pass for entry into the Manly Swim Centre, the cost for the scheme will be $50.00. Students will need to bring their pass every day. Group 1 (2D, 2E & Group A of 2L) will be leaving school at 11.45am (returning by 1.30pm) and Group 2 (2J, 2F & Group B of 2L) will depart school at 12.30pm (returning to school by 2.15pm). Students should bring their costume, a towel, a hat and warm clothing (on a cool day) in a plastic bag. Please note, they will change into their swimmers before they depart school. It is recommended that students use adequate sun protection, e.g. SPF 30+ broad spectrum. Water-resistant sunscreen should be reapplied regularly. A T-shirt or rash shirt is also recommended. No jewellery please. The students will need 2 large zip up bags. One for their uniform and one holding the wet swimming gear. All items must be labelled as loss of clothing is an ongoing issue. Unfortunately there will be no time for showering.

Year 5 Leadership incursion

Balgowlah Heights Public School is committed to providing student leadership opportunities. Within the school, the development of leadership skills is embedded in curriculum units, classroom routines and extra-curricular activities. In Year 5, students are also given the opportunity to participate in a leadership program delivered by yLead. The day-long program includes the following three sessions.   Session 1:  Introduction/Icebreakers and Energiser/Leaders of the World.  Session 2:  Embracing Strengths/Responsibility and Contributions.   Session 3: Team Problem Solving/Leadership in Action.  The cost to participate in the program is $24.00.    Students should wear sports uniform on this day.    Please complete the permission note and payment slip and return it to your child’s class teacher by Tuesday 15 October.

Kimbriki excursion classes 1M and 1W

Students in Year 1 will be visiting the Kimbriki Eco House and Garden, Kimbriki Tip Mona Vale Road, Terrey Hills. They will be participating in a hands-on education program participating in an interactive Eco Garden Workshop.   This excursion has been planned to support the Geography unit “Sustainability” and PDHPE "healthy eating'" unit. Students need to be at school by 8:45am as the buses will be departing at 9am and return to school by 2pm. Travel will be on seatbelted coaches with Beachwheels. Students will need to wear full school uniform, including hat, and bring their library bag with morning tea, lunch and a drink. Students should also wear sunscreen and bring a raincoat (if necessary). We will need two parent helpers per class. Due to the nature of the excursion, younger siblings will not be able to accompany parent helpers.
